A brain cell in 3D

This is an animated presentation of a live pyramidal neuron expressing GFP in a 5-day-old organotypic hippocampal slice in culture (200 microns deep from the surface). The 3-D animated projection is made from a Z-stack of images (150 microns in thickness) acquired using an Olympus Fluoview Multiphoton Confocal

Cytoskeleton in migrating cells

A migrating embryonic fibroblast (Xenopus) was stained for its microtubules and actin microfilaments, two major cytoskeletal structures. The color panel is the merge of two channels. The direction of migration is indicated by the arrows.
